“Joy to the World” is a calligraphic presentation of the popular Christmas hymn written by English minister and hymn-writer Isaac Watts in 1719. The hymn lyrics are an interpretation of Psalm 98, celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.
I wanted this piece to be presented as a proclamation from a throne or king. In 2020 I was struck deeply by the line, “He comes to make His blessings flow far as the curse is found, “ and I knew I needed to pen this song. The curse of sin and death is devastatingly real, making the coming of a righteous, good, and loving King such wonderful news. Joy to the world, indeed! Take heart! The Lord has come, and His blessings flow ever more each day until the new heavens and new earth.
